Nation Pays Homage to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

New Delhi--The President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil led the nation in paying homage to Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his 55th Mahaparinirvan Diwas here today. The President offered floral tributes at the statue of Baba Saheb at Sansad Bhavan Lawns in the Parliament House complex this morning.

The Vice President, Shri M. Hamid Ansari, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Smt. Meira Kumar also offered tributes to the Father of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar.

Among other leaders who paid floral homage to Baba Saheb included the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Mukul Wasnik, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the Minister of State, Social Justice & Empowerment Shri D. Napolean.

The UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Oppostion in the Lok Sabha, Smt. Sushma Swaraj and the Chief Minister of Delhi Shrimati Sheila Dikshit also paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

The function was organised by the Ambedkar Foundation, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowermnet.
