Himachal Pradesh Government has declared 28th December,2010, 30th December, 2010 and 1st January, 2011 as Public Holiday in Himachal Pradesh on account of general election of Panchayati Raj Institutions and 3rd January, 2011 for the election of Urban Local Bodies in the State on the respective dates.

All Government Offices/Boards/Corporations/Educational Institutions and Industrial Establishments under Industrial Disputes Act and shops will remain closed on the said date in the areas of those Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies where the elections are scheduled to be held. It would also be ensured that this would be a paid holiday to the daily waged employees and also within the meaning of Section 25 of Negotiable Instrument Act 1881, working in the areas of those Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies where the elections are scheduled to be held.

All the Deputy Commissioners are authorised to declare a public holiday on the actual date of poll in the concerned areas within their jurisdiction on a particular day on the above dates as per the schedule of the poll prepared by them. The public holiday declared by the Deputy Commissioner would be applicable only in those areas where the Panchayati Raj Institutions/Urban Local Bodies elections are taking place. It is also clarified that one particular panchayat/Urban Local Bodies would get only one holiday i.e. date on which the poll is ordered to be held.

It is, however, clarified that special casual leave/maximum facilities would be given to those employees who are working in different places in the State and have a right to vote in other places in the Pradesh on the production of certificate from the concerned Presiding Officer that the employee has actually cast his/her vote.
