SHIMLA------State would soon be introducing mobile, anywhere anytime banking services to facilitate the people especially of rural areas to avail banking facilities at their door steps. This was revealed by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, after holding meeting with Executive Director, UCO Bank and other officers of the Bank here today.
Chief Minister said that he had raised the issue of strengthening of banking services in the state and sought adoption of every district by the banks to give momentum to developmental activities through liberal loaning facilities to the people in a recently convened high level meeting of banks under the Chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukerjee at Chandigarh. He said that the decision of Union Finance Ministry to launch mobile banking services was a welcome step and in the interest of the people to attract more customers opt for banking operations. He said that with the introduction of mobile banking services by UCO Bank, beginning from district Shimla, people in the periphery of about 20 kms. radius, especially the villages unconnected with banking services, would be benefitted with banking services at their door steps. He said that since the literacy rate in the State was very high and people were aware of the facilities and benefits they could avail from banking services. He said that a large number of activities were taking place in the State where banking services were rendering yeoman service. He said that majority of government transactions were taking place through the banks only which had resulted into substantial savings by the people as well.
Prof. Dhumal said that Himachal Pradesh happened to be one of the leading States in the country which had best banking network and with the launching of mobile banking facilities the network would get strengthened further. He said that the mobile banking vans would be equipped with ATM facilities to the card holders and facilities to illiterate people to deposit or withdraw money besides brail facility to the visually impaired customers. He said that it would be a part of the Core Banking Solutions (CBS) being adopted by different banks in the country.
Shri Ajay Kumar, Executive Director UCO Bank said that Banking Correspondent facilities would also be made available to the people. He said that under the scheme a Banking Correspondent would be appointed by the Bank and authorized to disburse and collect payments from the bank account holders by opening the accounts through biometric system to ascertain the identity of the customers.
He said that Himachal Pradesh had best credit deposit ratio in the country and recovery rate was also above 85 percent which had made it a role model for rest of the country. He hoped that with the introduction of mobile banking facilities people in the villages unconnected with banking facilities would get benefitted immensely and their savings to grow substantially. He assured the Chief Minister of best services to the State in coming time.
