MBBS seats at IGMC, Shimla had been increased from 65 to 100

SHIMLA------Spokesman of Health Services said here today that in view of increasing number of Diarrhoea cases in Sanjauli area of Shimla town, the Department of Health & Family Welfare had under taken various activities. He said that in last two days, 40 cases have been reported suffering from diarrhoea from Sanjauli area of Shimla town, out of which 22 treated as outpatients and 18 admitted.

He said that three health teams were constituted which visited 265 houses, distributed 4000 tablets of Chlorine and 150 ORS packets in the affected area. Two cases of diarrhoea were also identified by these teams and they were advised to visit the hospital at the earliest, he added. He said that Civil Dispensary, Sanjauli was functioning 24 hours for any emergency services and added that pamphlets were being distributed in the affected area for educating people to protect themselves from water borne diseases. He told that Mikeing was being done in the affected area of Shimla town, appealing the residents to drink boiled water.

Spokesmen said that the water surveillance was being done by Department of Health, Municipal Corporation and IPH Department. Today six water samples were taken by the Health Department from the affected area for laboratory investigation, he added.

He said that stool samples had been collected for bacteriological culture by the department of Microbiology at IGMC Shimla. He also said that advertisement through print media have been issued, appealing the residents of Shimla town with regard to taking measures for protecting themselves from water borne diseases. The Department is monitoring the situation on day-to-day basis, he added.

SHIMLA------Dr. Rajiv Bindal Health and Ayurveda Minister said that MBBS seats at IGMC, Shimla had been increased from 65 to 100 which was a great achievement in itself. He said that efforts were also afoot to increase MBBS Seats at Medical College, Tanda from 50 to 100. He said that Rs. 600 crore Medical College was coming up in Mandi with the help of Employee State Insurance Corporation. Similarly construction work of Medical Colleges in Palampur and Kasuali Assembly Constituencies was in progress. , he added.

Keeping in view, the dearth of specialists in the State, Dr. Bindal said that Post -Graduation seats had been increased from 39 to 75. He said that besides upgrading the Tanda Medical College as Post-Graduation Institute, five students had already been admitted into the Post-Graduation classes at the Institute. A request to start 32 PG seats at Tanda Medical College and Super Speciality at IGMC, Shimla had already been sent to the Medical Council of India, he added.

Presiding over the review meeting of Medical Education and Research Department here today, Health Minister expressed satisfaction over the progress made by the Department.

Shri Rajiv Bindal, Health Minister said that the State Government was ensuring that 400 students get admission in MBBS course by the year 2012 and steps were being taken to open Medical Colleges Hamirpur, Una, Sirmaur and Mandi districts. He said that it had also been decided under the leadership of Chief Minister, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal to ensure large number of MBBS doctors for the State so as to meet the growing demand of doctors in rural as well as urban areas of the State.

Shri Bindal also highlighted the achievements made in the Para-Medical Course. He said that during last year as many as 230 students were admitted to B Sc (Nursing) course. Earlier, in the absence of Nursing College in the State, Students had to move out of the State, he added. He further said that as many as 540 students would be admitted to B Sc (Nursing) in the current year for which counselling would be held in the month of August. He said that 60 students would be admitted into Nursing College being opened shortly in the Government sector.

He said that 64-SLICE CT, Cobalt Unit and Eye Bank would soon be inaugurated in the Medical College, Shimla. He said that during last two years, 500-bedded facility was made available in Tanda Medical College and efforts were also afoot to start super specialty in the college. He said that new machines, Eyes X-ray machine, new State-of-Art Operation Theatre etc. facilities were added to the IGMC, Shimla.

Earlier, Dr. Jaisri Sharma, Director, Medical Education and Research Department welcomed the Chief Guest and detailed out the activities undertaken by the Department for providing quality education to the students in the State.

The meeting among others was attended by Dr. Surinder Kashyap, Principal, IGMC, Shimla Dr. Anil Chauhan, Principal, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda and other medical officers of the Department.

SHIMLA------Smt. Asha Swarup, Chief Secretary has lauded the role of banks in the process of economic development of the State. She said that banks have given loans to the tune of Rs. 5391 crore in the State against target of Rs. 5181 crore during last financial year thereby registering overall 104 percent achievement. Highest achievement was witnessed in agriculture sector, where fresh loans of Rs. 1894 crore were provided to 1.37 lakh farmers in the State, she added.

Chief Secretary was speaking on the occasion of 116th meeting of State-Level Bankers' Committee of Himachal Pradesh here today.

She said that agriculture and horticulture were two prime occupations of the people in Himachal Pradesh. She said that the banks should also provide finances to emerging sectors like micro-hydel power projects, Information Technology and Bio-Technology, agro-processing areas, tourism, education so that it could help in boosting up the economy of the State.

She said that financial targets fixed under various Government sponsored schemes like SGSY, PMEGP and SJSRY were fully achieved. She also appreciated the banks for taking liberal decision to provide banking services in all 48 villages identified under Financial Inclusion Plan 2010-11 and hoped that entire exercise would be completed by December, 2010 ahead one year schedule given by Government of India. She also urged the banks to provide 'Gateway' facility for online deposit of various taxes fees and VAT which would give convenience to common men. She urged the banks to cover all eligible and willing farmers under Kisan Credit Card scheme in the State.

She also appreciated the pro-active role of NABARD in the State in implementation of two mega schemes 'Doodh Ganga' Yojna and 'Pandit Deen Dayal Kisan Bagwan Samridhi Yojna'. She said that under the schemes massive targets for setting up of 16500 Poly houses, installation of 12320 micro-irrigation system, construction of 1700 water tanks and improvement of 950 flow water resources to cover 14.70 lakh sq. mt. area under irrigation had been set up in the State with total project cost of Rs. 154.92 crore.

Regarding opening of a Circuit bench of Debt Recovery Tribunal at Shimla, Chief Secretary said that communication for the same would be expedited.

Shri Ajay Kumar, Executive Director, UCO Bank said that banks had done extremely well in hilly State for covering all eligible households for 100 percent Financial as well as Credit Inclusion, out of which about 73 percent households were covered through one or another type of revolving credit in the State. He urged the banks to launch a joint campaign to cover all the left-out families with banks credit under Joint Liability Group concept promoted by NABARD so that farmers without having clear title of land can also be financed.

Shri Kumar also said that 10 Rural Self-Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) had been established in the State by banks and urged that benefits of these institutions must reach to 'Aaam Adami' in terms of employment and self-venture.

Shri Ripan Murgai, General Manager and Convener, SLBC said that banks had reached with an agreement with State Government for payment of social security benefits in the State and assured to cover unbanked remote pockets for disbursement of NREGA payment through banking channels.

Shri Ajay Tyagi, Principal Secretary, Finance, Shri Jasbir Singh, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Shri A.D. Ratnoo, Chief General Manager, NABARD also spoke on the occasion.

The meeting was attended by Members of the Committee besides senior officers.
