Body of an Indian Army जवान remained dumped for 48 years in a glacier in Arunachal Pradesh and was recovered

Dharamsala: Body of an Indian Army jawan, which remained dumped for 48 years in a glacier in Arunachal Pradesh and was recovered a few days back, would be brought to his native village near Dharamsala next week, family members of the soldier disclosed.

According to JS Katoch, nephew of the martyr, Karam Chand Katoch of Dogra Regiment, his uncle was declared missing during Chinese aggression in 1962.
Following the Chinese aggression, martyr father Kashmir Singh Katoch, a resident of village Agochar near Andreta, received a message from the Army that his 21-years-old son had gone missing during the war. His name never figured among the POWs and his parents waited for him till their last breath. The father of martyr passed away in 1985 and his mother Gaytri Devi in 1990. Karam Chand was unmarried when the tragedy struck the family.

On July 6, 2010, JS Katoch received a message from the Indian Army that the body of his uncle Karam Chand Katoch was recovered from the China border in Arunachal Pradesh. He also got confirming communication from Col. SK Singh of 4-Dogra Regiment that the mortal remains of KC Katoch were recovered and will be brought from China border to Tinsukhia in Assam from where it would reach his ancestral village Agochar between July 11 and 14.

Jaswant, who is working in SSB in Assam, has got his leave extended in order to perform the last rites of his uncle after 48 years of his death. He said that the souls of his grandparents would rest in peace after the last rites of their son.
