JAWALAMUKHI , 5 July 2010-----The arrival of Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) in Jawalamukhi town of Kangra district of Himachal Pardesh on Monday was marked with festivity and euphoria amidst beating of drums and loud applause by large number of School children who had gathered at the reception venue to witness the moment.
The Queen’s Baton Relay, which arrived here from Dharmshala this morning , was received by Ramesh Dhawala Food and Civil Supply Minister of Himachal Government.
The school children queued up along both side of the Shimla Dharmshala National Highway with Tricolor in their hands welcomed the QBR right to mark the celebration.
The QBR was officially started by handing over the Queen’s Baton to Ramesh Dhawala, and simultaneously Ms, Ashu Devi, International player, Volleyball, Pooja Thakur, who played Junior Asian Championship, Munish Kumar (Basketball) and office bearers of Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association (HPOA), International player, Champa Chandel (Volleyball), Chuni lal, International Player in Skiing ran with the relay holding the Queen’s Baton with enthusiasm and Jubiliation from Bus Stand to Famous shrine of JawalaMukhi.
while addressing the gathering Food and Civil Supply Minister Ramesh Dhawala said that it is a matter of great pride for the people of the State to welcome the Queen’s Baton. He said that the QBR after travelling 171,500 Kms had entered its 250th day today since it was flagged officially from England in October 2009. He further added that with each game the tradition grows in scale and significance, including more Nations, involving more participants and generating more excitement than ever before.

He said that the declaration of Common Wealth Games as Green Games is a message to global community to adopt Zero-tolerance towards environment degradation. He said that the QBR which has traversed through 70 Nations has sent the message of brotherhood and fraternity amongst the world communities.

Earlier Sh. J.R Katwal. Nodal Officer of QBR of the State and director sports welcomed the Chief Guest and detailed about the itinerary of QBR for three days in the State. He thanked the people of the area for according a warm reception.
