40th Foundation Day function of Himachal Pradesh University at Summer Hill

SHIMLA-----Smt. Urmila Singh, Governor and Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister have expressed grief over the killing of Lance Naik Shri Sanjay Kumar who martyred in an encounter with the terrorists in Baramula of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday last. Shri Sanjay belonged to village Jharedi of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister conveyed his heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss. He has also prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul.

SHIMLA-----Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, underlined the need for preparation of a Vision Document for qualitative Improvement in the University Education besides University’s sustainable development. He was speaking on the occasion of 40th Foundation Day function of Himachal Pradesh University at Summer Hill, here today. He also performed foundation stone laying ceremony of Multi-Faculty Building (Phase-III) to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.90 crore and Tourism and Hotel Management Institute under Vocational Studies Programme of the University, estimated to cost Rs. 5.10 crore.

Chief Minister said that the University happens to be the Centre of Intellectual Discourses and to keep it abreast of the global trends in vocational and academics a Vision Document was the need of the hour. He advised the University authorities to prepare a well considered and consolidated Vision Document containing road map of the action plan to be undertaken by the University in coming years. He said that the University had locational advantage most congenial atmosphere for studies which should be capitalized to make it a Centre of par excellence so that it emerges as a role model for other universities. He also underlined the need for an Education Policy which could be effective and practical to carry forward with improved and global educational standards.

Prof. Dhumal said that 40 years period was a long period for any Institution and also provides an opportunity to take introspection to evaluate achievements and weaknesses over a period of four decades.

He said that Himachal Pradesh University had produced best of the professionals and academicians who had brought laurels not only to the University but the entire the State and added that there was no dearth of talents and intellectuals in the University. He said that in the age of cut throat competition the students had to be equipped with best of the skills to match global standards to enable them to meet the future challenges successfully.

Chief Minister congratulated the entire teaching and non-teaching fraternity of the University on successful completion of four decades and hoped that this would strive to make it an ideal University in the country.

Prof. S.K.Gupta, Vice Chancellor of the University, welcomed the Chief Minister and presented an overview of the achievements of the University. He thanked the Chief Minister for enhancing the grant from Rs. 30 crore for the year 2009-10 to Rs. 50 crore for current financial year which had eased the financial constraints considerably. He expressed the hope of introducing more vocational courses with a view to equip youth with skills which could find them employment opportunities. He said that the placement cell in the University would also be strengthened to help qualified students find job more conveniently.

Shri Virender Kashyap, Member of Parliament, Shri Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA, Dr. Shrikant Baldi, Principal Secretary Education Members of all faculties of the University and senior officers of the State Government were present on the occasion among others.

SHIMLA-----Himachal Pradesh Government has withdrawn the recognition of diplomas equivalent to Junior Basic Teachers. The recognition was granted by the Education Department on 15th December, 1983.

Government has further ordered that the candidates who will complete and successfully pass the two years junior basic teachers training course/diploma from an institute, which is affiliated with the H.P. Board of School of Education and has admitted students strictly on merit, on the basis of Common Entrance Test, conducted by the H.P. Board of School Education, will only be eligible for the appointment as Junior Basic Teachers in Himachal Pradesh, in accordance with the qualifications prescribed in the Junior Basic Trained Teachers R&P Rules.


Dr. Vinod Kumar Pathak, Director, Health Services said here today that 28 cases of Diarrhoea were reported from different part of Shimla town. Out of these, four cases are admitted at IGMC, Shimla and two at DDU, Shimla he added.

He said that remaining cases were treated as outpatient (13 Civil Dispensary, Sanjauli and nine Deen Dayal Upadhya Hospital, Shimla. He told that health teams continued their visit today also and visited 245 houses, distributed 94 ORS packets and 1245 chlorine Tablets in the affected area. He said that IEC activities in the form of miking and house visits were going-on in the affected area.

Dr. Vinod said that the situation in the affected area of Sanjauli was under control and the department monitoring the situation on day to day basis.

SHIMLA-----Dr. J.C. Rana, Director, Agriculture said here today that the department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers had agreed to release 6000 MT Urea to Himachal Pradesh from National Fertilizer Ltd. Nangal. This issue was taken up by the State, time and again, in view of short supply of Urea by the manufacturers mainly National Fertilizers Ltd., a Government of India undertaking, he added.

Dr. Rana said that Urea demand of 30000 MT for the current season upto July month was sent to Government of India in February, 2010. He said that against the allocation of 17500 MT Urea from NFL, Nangal, only 11000 MT has been supplied whereas IFFCO has already supplied 15000 MT Urea against their allotment of 13000 MT. He said that the State had received 26000 MT Urea till-now.

Dr. Rana said that State Government has been taking up this matter with Department of Fertilizers and Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India on every Friday through Video Conferencing and a meeting was also held in this regard on 19th July, 2010 in the Department of Fertilizers, Government of India to restore Urea supply and to workout the modalities to operationalise notional rake points at Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Kullu. He said that with the supply of Urea from Nangal, Hoshiarpur and Chandigarh, the situation of Urea availability would be comfortable within next 3-4 days. He further said that supplies have been despatched to Mandi, Chamba and Kullu districts from where reports of short supply were coming.

Director, Agriculture further said that Urea topdressing can be done upto first week of August. He assured the farmers that adequate Urea supply will be ensured in the coming week and HIMFED has been asked to rush supplies on priority to those areas from where shortage have been reported.
